DANE SNYDER LCPC, CADC

Dane Snyder is the owner and President of DKS Counseling LLC. He is a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor (LCPC) and a certified alcohol and drug/addictions counselor (CADC) in the state of Illinois. Throughout his 10 plus years of working in the mental/behavioral health field, his primary background has entailed working with substance abuse/addictions populations and their families. Dane has experience in numerous counseling orientations, with an emphasis on Cognitive-Behavioral and Family-Systems approaches to treatment.  Additionally, Dane strongly believes in the benefits of holistic health practices including but not limited to energy healing, reiki, massage therapy, energy psychology, mindfulness, guided meditation, yoga, and various mind/body treatments targeting the discovery of limiting subconscious beliefs.  Dane believes this is all a part of the healing process, particularly from trauma, and that these practices are essential in understanding the patterns that keep us stuck in our undesired and at times, unhealthy ways of thinking, feeling, and behaving.

Dane is skilled in addressing a wide range of mental health issues, but has a particular passion for working with individuals who identify as “codependent” whether pertaining to just general tendencies, the spouse of the alcoholic, fearing abandonment or people leaving them, overly trying to control other people and outcomes, chronic issues or conflict within romantic relationships or interpersonal relationships, or the other numerous variations of this term that the mental health field has struggled to define accurately since the 1980’s.  Dane understands and considers himself an expert on the complex nature of the emotional trauma (as well as other forms of trauma) experienced throughout childhood and one’s upbringing that contributes to and quite literally shapes a person’s development and trajectory towards “codependency.”  Dane places a particular emphasis on educating his clients in attachment trauma, high conflict personalities as caregivers, parents, or major influences, lack of a strong personal boundary system, why (those who identify as codependent) place a higher value on helping others get their needs met while devaluing their own, and helping them to understand why it is such a struggle to feel their feelings.

Dane uses a variety and combination of educational materials, inner child healing techniques/exercises, bibliotherapy, basic counseling techniques, grief and loss models and approaches, spirituality, as well as other interventions to help his clients reconnect with their authentic self.  Dane considers himself to be both an ongoing teacher and student in this healing work, and is a codependent in recovery himself continuing to do his own work, setting boundaries, using discernment and inner knowing/intuition daily, and healing his own inner child.  Dane is an avid music fan, with an affinity for singer/songwriters.  He believes that words are both powerful and healing, that music and lyrics speak to the soul, and that this can be instrumental in one’s healing process.

Dane earned his Masters of Arts degree from The Adler School of Professional Psychology in Clinical Mental Health Counseling. His clinical experience includes working throughout the entire continuum of care including detox units, residential inpatient settings, Intensive Outpatient treatment, and Aftercare/Continuing Care services. In addition to his experience working in Private Practice, Dane has formerly held positions at the Youth Treatment Center at Northwest Community Hospital in Arlington Heights, Illinois, Alexian Brothers Behavioral Health Hospital, and Rosecrance Health Network.  In 2011 Dane earned his Bachelors degree in psychology from Northern Illinois University, and he received his initial certification in alcohol and other drug counseling through the Illinois Alcohol and Other Drug Abuse Professional Certification Association now known as The Illinois Certification Board in 2012.
